Whether it's the drivers around you, other cyclist, or some punk kids who just want to start something, it never hurts to be prepared. This recommended combination can provide defense that's less than lethal, and effective.

Think about it, even if it is legal to carry a gun where you live, it's not always the best choice for defense The consequences of pulling the trigger are enormous, whether you are right or wrong.

OC Pepper Spray is a good option. The recommended DPS Pepper Spray has been tested with impressive results. Pepper spray is rated by its heat (out the nozzle) and this is by far some of the hottest OC out there. It all comes in a variety of useful sizes and forms. The fog has the best coverage at close range. You must practice with it and understand that it can come back in your face and disable you instead of the intended target.

Expandable Baton's are a good backup when on a bike. In most states they are illegal to conceal carry, so check around. The 16' ASP Baton is inexpensive and of good quality. Its small size allows you to store it in your pocket or in your pack. There are also good options for attaching it to your messenger bag or hydration pack. The cheaper ones are not worth bothering with and can fail when you need them most.
